The problem may simply be how well you manage those hours.Time Management is a valuable skill that can immensely improve your efficiency at work, and help you achieve your goals.Here are 5 Tips to improve your Time Management Skills:

  1. Setting SMART Goals

Goal setting is critical to effective time management strategies, but setting unrealistic or unachievable goals can be detrimental to your work. “SMART” is a method through which you should determine your professional goals. You should ensure that your goals are:

  • Specific

  • Measurable

  • Achievable

  • Relevant

  • Timed

By following this method, you will be able to manage your time effectively towards achieving realistic and achievable goals.

1. Prioritising your Goals Once you have determined your SMART goals, how do you manage them effectively? Achieving challenging goals requires a lot of mental energy, so it is important to organise these goals in order of importance. Invest your mental focus on one goal, the most important goal right now. This goal should have the greatest impact on your life compared to how long it will take to achieve. By organising your goals in this way, you will yield results quicker, and with greater ease. 2. Using Calendars It may seem obvious but calendars are vital to time management. When used properly, a calendar will ensure that you manage your time effectively to stay ahead of your deadlines. For people with multiple responsibilities, an annual calendar organised by areas of responsibility may be especially valuable. For each of these areas, you can list the major responsibilities month by month and thereby see glance what tasks must be completed in a given month of the year.

3. Organising your Workspace Believe it or not, but by maintain a clean and tidy workspace you can significantly improve your efficiency. By eliminating clutter, you effectively de-clutter your mind – enabling greater levels of creativity, focus and productivity. Instead of having that pile of paper on your desk, set up an efficient filing system. This will eliminate clutter, and help you manage your workflow. Get organised! 4. Planning Wisely Before your day even begins, you should have an outline of how it will pan out. Having a daily plan and committing to it can help you stay focused on the tasks of that particular day. Prioritise your daily tasks by level of importance, and assign a time limit for each task. By planning your daily tasks, you will have greater control over your workload, and your time.
